Our Story

Who we are and Why we care

Professional Healthcare Advocates was founded by a Registered Nurse who spent many years advocating for her patients. This hands on experience, combined with an established network of trusted providers and facilities, has guided her to create this professional and potentially life saving healthcare navigation service.

I work with clients throughout Los Angeles and Orange County, and Coachella Valley, California, as well as remotely with clients nationwide.

Our Mission is to ensure everyone receives
compassionate, high quality healthcare.

Kim Acosta, RN, BSN
Founder and Lead Advocate

Kim Acosta is a dedicated registered nurse and patient advocate with a passion for improving communication and continuity of care across the healthcare system. Throughout her nursing career, she recognized a critical gap between patients, providers, and care teams—an insight that inspired her to found her advocacy practice and champion safer, more coordinated patient outcomes.

Kim has extensive experience caring for patients across the lifespan, from infants to seniors. She began her career as a perinatal nurse with the USC Perinatal Group, specializing in maternal-fetal medicine, high-risk pregnancies, and complex care coordination in collaboration with Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. She later transitioned into home health and hospice care, where she supported patients with multiple chronic conditions and developed a deep commitment to patient advocacy.

In these roles, Kim became a trusted liaison—educating patients and families, facilitating communication with providers, and empowering individuals to take an active role in their healthcare decisions. As a hospice nurse, she considers it a privilege to guide patients and their loved ones through end-of-life care, ensuring dignity, compassion, and understanding throughout the process.

Kim earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Azusa Pacific University and was recognized for academic excellence as a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She has a board certification in patient advocacy. She is a member of the Alliance of Professional Health Advocates, adheres to the Health Advocate’s Code of Conduct and Professional Standards, serves on the board of the nonprofit Convalescent Aid Society, and is an active member of the Glendora Chamber of Commerce.

Outside of her professional work, Kim enjoys sailing, traveling with her husband and two adult children, and spending time with her three beloved dogs.
